On the latest Black Keys album, El Camino, the faded cover art of a white Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan isn’t meant just to evoke the retro rock sound of the band.

The vehicle is identical to the battered, wood-paneled behemoth in which the gritty Akron duo first crisscrossed the United States, having ditched college in 2002 to chase a musical dream that was launched with sparse audiences and an eight-track tape recorder.
